Alltel Wireless announced that a new wireless data card from Huawei is available to its customers, becoming the first North American mobile carrier to offer such products from the Chinese telecommunications solutions provider. The Huawei EC360 is a data card developed for the North American market and is the world's first CDMA 1xEV-DO data card manufactured using a 65-nanometer process, enabling less power consumption in devices.

The Huawei EC360 data card provides laptop users with an enhanced Internet surfing experience, allowing them to download large files, navigate webpages, send large e-mails and hold video conference meetings, at broadband speeds of up to 2.4 Mbps in the downlink and 1.8 Mbps in the uplink. The wireless access card is compatible with Windows 2000, Windows XP and Vista operating systems.

"The relationship with Huawei is another example of Alltel's commitment to find the best technologies and products available for our customers," said Wade McGill, senior vice president of wireless products and services for Alltel Wireless. "We are proud to introduce Huawei's PC data card product to the North American wireless consumer, and we know that our customers will enjoy the fast downloads that the card will provide."

"Alltel is a first-rate network operator with very rigorous product testing standards. Their decision to make our EC360 data card available to customers further validates Huawei's ability to deliver quality products for both the U.S. telecommunications industry and its customers," added Carl Liu, vice president of North American sales for Huawei. "We're confident in our ability to provide competitive products and services, and look forward to a growing relationship with Alltel."

The Huawei EC360 card is available to Alltel customers for free, when signing up for a data plan of $59.99 or more with a two-year service agreement. The data card has a suggested retail price of $189.9 when purchased without a service contract.

Data cards produced by Huawei are currently used by carriers in Europe and the Asia Pacific region and the company has been working with several global wireless operators, such as Vodafone, Hutchinson and Telefonica. In 2006, the global shipment volume of Huawei's data cards exceeded 1.5 million.
