The device could head towards Verizon

It seems that HTC's future plans include a new device that should be added to Verizon's lineup. The fresh handset has been spotted at the GCF (Global Certification Forum), which approved the mobile phone from HTC. Dubbed XV6175, the device should be heading to Verizon, as the XV code in its name suggests.

The fresh HTC XV6175 handset is expected to feature quad-band GSM connectivity, which means that it should be a smartphone to include support for both GSM and CDMA standards. As many of you may know, Verizon is not a GSM carrier, so the GSM (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900) bands it supports might not be of any use in the US, yet the device could as easily be a CDMA\EVDO phone.

Given the fact that HTC's roadmap for the ongoing year has leaked to the Web not too long ago, the new device has been already compared with the handsets spotted there, so as to have an idea of what the mobile phone maker actually plans for it.

There would be three devices that HTC should release this year that could be the newly spotted handset. We have the HTC Whitestone W, a device already expected to come to Verizon in 2009, although that won't happen earlier than September, as well as the HTC Twin, which is a device sporting both CDMA and GSM, yet this phone is suggested to head towards another carrier.

The third of the handsets, and the most likely one, is the HTC Cedar, a Windows Mobile-powered smartphone that is heading towards Verizon, although it is uncertain whether it should be dual GSM and CDMA, while also expected to come as a rather low-end handset. For what it's worth, until Verizon or HTC officially say a word on the handset, we cannot state for sure which device has seen GCF's approval.
