HTC officials confirmed the new HTC phone, codename Libra aka UTStarcom 5800, and disclosed some info about the handset's specifications. The device has been unveiled at UTStarcom's CTIA showroom, but it seems like it will still be distributed by HTC and branded by the carriers that will release it on their networks.

The Libra will have a candy-bar look-a-like super thin design, with an external numeric keypad and a lateral slide-out QWERTY keyboard, being much smaller than the previous HTC devices.

The handset's CDMA version, with initial support for Revision 0 EVDO, probably upgradeable to Revision A EVDO, allowing transfer speeds of up to 3.1 MB per second, will be available sometime in the first quarter of 2007, and the GSM version is also planned to be released in 2007. HTC hasn't yet released any info about the devices future price or the carriers that will launch it next year.
