The series is targeted at Asian consumers

HP, the leading handheld vendor in Asia-Pacific, has announced the launch of the HP iPAQ rw6800 Multimedia Messenger Series, intended at bringing a plus of style on the handheld devices market.

The series provides a lot of power with the 416MHz Intel PXA 272 processor and offers 64 MB RAM and 128 MB of flash ROM storage space, expandable via miniSD cards.

The TFT display measures 2.7 inches and supports resolutions of 240 x 320 pixels in 262k colors. Additional features include a 2 megapixel camera, MP3 player, FM radio, dual-stereo speakers. The phone operates in tri-band GSM (900/1800/1900) and supports connectivity through GPRS, EDGE, Bluetooth, WiFi.

Running on Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 the handset comes equipped with software applications such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Powerpoint, Pocket MSN. The Li-Ion battery lasts 280 hours in standby and 5.5 hours in continuous talking mode.

The release date is scheduled after the second quarter of 2006.
