The music game genre has certainly been on an ascending trend these days, as more and more people are looking towards this kind of titles to meet their entertainment needs. The fact that one can play them with their family or friends, and envision themselves as their favorite band has certainly made a lot of customers buy these games.

Guitar Hero and Rock Band are among the most popular ones, both of which dominate the sales charts and are set to achieve some very interesting results this holiday season. Nevertheless, as these latest games have proven not to be enough, Activision, the company behind Guitar Hero, and Harmonix, the one responsible for Rock Band, have both announced that new, band-specific titles will be launched.

As Activision has already had under development, for quite some time now, the Guitar Hero: Metallica title, Harmonix has fought back and announced a month ago the fact that it would make a Beatles-themed game.

Now, it seems that some new details on the Metallica game from Activision have surfaced, as GameInformer had a first glance at this game, currently under development. First of all, rockers will have the same abilities to play instruments as those featured in other Guitar Hero titles, with the possibility of choosing either the guitar, the bass, the drums, or the vocals, on which to play the roughly 45-song tracklist, which doesn't include all Metallica songs, but also some other tracks from influential bands.

Furthermore, gamers will get the chance to place Metallica-inspired audio samples in their custom songs, through the use of the song creator that will be bundled in this game. Additionally, very talented players can rejoice, as an Expert Plus mode will be added to the drums, which will allow them to play the bass-heavy Metallica songs with two bass pedals, instead of just one, as the previous games featured. Here is a preliminary tracklist, as found on 1up.com:

“Enter Sandman" by Metallica;  "For Whom The Bell Tolls" by Metallica;  "Fuel" by Metallica;  "Hit The Lights" by Metallica;  "King Nothing" by Metallica;  "Master of Puppets" by Metallica;  "No Leaf Clover" by Metallica; "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica;  "Sad But True" by Metallica;  "The Unforgiven" by Metallica;  "Where I May Roam" by Metallica;  "No Excuses" by Alice in Chains;  "Turn The Page" by Bob Seger;  "Hell Bent For Leather" by Judas Priest;  "Demon Cleaner" by Kyuss;  "Tuesdays Gone" by Lynyrd Skynyrd;  "Blood and Thunder" by Mastodon;  "Armed and Ready" by Michael Schenker Group;  "Mother of Mercy" by Samhain;  "Black River" by The Sword.  Additional songs from Foo Fighters, Queen, and Slayer.

All in all, some pretty interesting things, which are sure to make quite a lot of couch-rockers very excited for this future game. Let's just hope that Activision will do a great job with this one, and won't reiterate the experience of the low sales of the Guitar Hero: Aerosmith game.
