The Beta branch of Google Chrome, a browser built on the Blink layout engine that aims to be minimalistic and versatile at the same time, has been upgraded to version 37.0.2062.94 and is now available for testing.

Google Chrome usually features three distinct branches: Dev, Beta, and Stable. The Beta release is a little bit more stable than the Development one, but it's still pretty far off from day-to-day usage. As the development cycle gets closer to the end, the length of the changelog diminishes and there are fewer and fewer problems to correct.

This doesn't mean that users can just install the Beta branch of Google Chrome and hope for the best. It's still very likely that some problems still remain and there is no telling what Google developers will choose as features by the time this version becomes stable.

This is not a very large update, but it does come with a few interesting modifications. It will be a while before we see any of these changes trickle into the stable releases and some of them can't arrive soon enough.

According to the changelog, SkBitmap::readPixels is now used to perform copy to 4444 (readPixels allows specifying the rowBytes, which is important for > > this caller, who wants them to be 4-byte aligned), a mergeability issue with cursor compositing has been fixed, a bug that was affecting the GLES3 platforms has been corrected, the draw buffers are only switched if the extension is supported, the display name on ChromeOS is now used instead of the profile name, the correct key string is now generated to the IME extensions for media keys, the correct DOM key code string for functional keys is now used, the flag check added for HID detection screen has been disabled, and ChromeVox has been updated.

Also, alignment for the HID screen has been fixed, a few very old ATI drivers have been blacklisted, a bug with old registration ID not being removed has been fixed, and the cross-origin video check for webgl has been corrected.

The Google Chrome developers only provide two kinds of binary files, deb and rpm, and no source. If you are not using a Linux distribution capable of reading this type of files, you will have to wait until it hits your repositories.

Usually, a complete list of changes can be found on the official website.
