One of the most hyped releases of the year is the Gareth Edwards-directed “Godzilla” remake, which drops in theaters in May. First teased at San Diego Comic-Con 2012, the film is yet to reveal its monster.

So don’t expect to see it up close in the latest movie poster; click on the image above to see it in full. It might not show the monster in detail, but one thing is sure: it’s just as breathtaking as the first full trailer.

In fact, the artwork and the preview go hand in hand. If you look closely, above the monster, which is shown with its back to the camera, raising above the ruins of the city of San Francisco, is the SWAT team dropping from the sky, as shown in the trailer.

Also note the size of the monster in comparison to the buildings. Its design might not be that different from what we’ve seen already in previous installments, but it appears considerably larger.

“Godzilla” stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Bryan Cranston, Juliette Binoche, Elizabeth Olsen and Ken Watanabe.

Based on promo material released so far, “Godzilla” is a representative of the new “breed” of monster movies, in which the human element also plays an important part, and the scale of destruction gets somewhat less attention in the narrative. Another such representative would be Guillermo Del Torro’s “Pacific Rim.”
