Although Mac computers don't yet pack USB 3.0 connectivity, Freecom is getting ready for a future when USB 3.0 becomes a standard feature on Apple's computers as well, and has just released the Mobile Drive Mg.   What we have here is a portable storage solution designed to work exclusively with Apple Mac systems, that also leverages the enhanced data transfer rates provided by the SuperSpeed USB interface.

Created to match the Mac systems from both aesthetic and technical standpoints, the new Mobile Drive Mg external HDDs will only be available through Apple Premium Resellers in three different models, one of which is only 10mm high.

Given the specific market segment they target, the drives are Mac formatted and 100 percent Time Machine compatible, as Freecom informs.

“The Mobile Drive Mg’s magnesium enclosure has the desirable combination of sleek aesthetics and functionality that many Mac customers look for in a product,” said Jelle Stalpers, Apple Business Development Manager for Freecom.

“Visually, the colour and wafer-thin profile of the drive make it the perfect complement to the Apple MacBook, and what’s more, it is really easy to use – by simply plugging the hard drive into a USB port on a computer or notebook, users can quickly back up important data and share office work, digital photos, music and movies with colleagues, family and friends.”

“From a more practical point of view, the incorporation of USB 3.0 technology makes it possible to transfer filesin the blink of an eye,” Freecom's rep concluded.

And it seems that, despite of the fact that we're talking about some pretty advanced products here, pricing won't exactly be extremely high, ranging between 65 pounds sterling (101 US dollars) for the 320GB USB 3.0 only model and 109 pounds sterling (170 US dollars) for the 750GB model packing both USB 3.0 and FireWire 800 interfaces.
