Mobile phone users on Verizon Wireless' network have a nice option when it comes to stay connected with friends, family and colleagues all over the world, namely Skype mobile. The app already includes a wide set of features, yet it seems that some more are expected to arrive to it soon, offering Verizon's 3G smartphone customers the possibility to enjoy more on their devices.

Skype mobile from Verizon Wireless is available as a free download, and can be installed on a number of 12 different smartphones at the moment. However, the wireless carrier says that it should soon become available for more handsets, including a number of 3G multimedia phones. Additionally, Skype mobile is said to come in Korean and simple Chinese too, which means that more flexibility will come to users. On top of that, Verizon users should soon see an enhanced user interface, which would include a drop-down menu with flags for international dialing.

Skype mobile from Verizon Wireless not only takes advantage of the reliability and breadth of our wireless network, but it’s also proving to be a great option for military families with loved ones stationed overseas, people with relatives in Asia or South America, and businesses with a global presence,” said Jennifer Byrne, executive director of business development, Verizon Wireless. “And, with the World Cup starting soon, there’s no better way to talk or chat about the action with far-flung fans and family than Skype mobile.”

Verizon Wireless 3G smartphone users with a data plan can enjoy free Skype-to-Skype calls and chats from their handsets to any of the 580 million Skype users around the world. According to Verizon, Skype mobile calls that are made to domestic landline and wireless numbers will use minutes from the voice plan a user has, while Skype mobile calls to international numbers are being charged through Skype’s low, international rates.

“The calls run on the United States’ largest and most reliable wireless voice network, providing outstanding call quality and allowing the app to work with traditional voice products, including Bluetooth headsets,” the carrier added. Skype mobile from Verizon Wireless is available for download for the company's DROID users via the Verizon Channel in Android Market, while BlackBerry customers can download it by heading to www.skype.com/vzw on their phone's browser.
