The new line of hard disk drives from Western Digital isn't so much a new collection as a refresh of the existing My Book series.

External data backup is something that many consumers don't bother with, but there are plenty of people working in business, design and security that feel safer knowing that their work won't be lost if, say, a terrorist smashes head-first through the window and bludgeons their computer to death.

Oh, and lost notebooks and destructive cyber viruses can be a plague too.

That's why external HDDs exist, among other things: to hold backups of whatever you have on your PC.

The new ones from Western Digital come in 2 TB, 3 TB and 4 TB and use WD SmartWare Pro automatic backup software, with Dropbox integration (full cloud backup capabilities).

The My Book storage devices are priced between $129.99 / €129.99 and $179.99 / €179.99. My Book for Mac hard drives should be up for sale as well.
