Bungie tries to avoid talking about them

The Halo franchise means a huge profit for both Bungie and Microsoft, which is why the studio, despite moving away from under the corporate umbrella of the large corporation, is still hard at work on two new titles for the game series, Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach.

During a recent press conference in London, the senior designer at Bungie, Lars Bakken, and Xbox Group Product Manager Ryan Crosby, talked about a few new things that would appear in Halo 3: ODST. For those of you who don't know, the game will focus on an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper, hence the name, who will be going around the ruined open world of New Mombasa and reliving memories with his team mates.

When asked about whether we will see new enemy types or if other alien life from the Flood will appear in the game, Bakken said that “I can’t talk about that!” When questioned about whether the Flood will make an appearance, he stopped for a moment and passed it to Crosby, who revealed that, “You know that there are Brutes and Grunts and things of that nature. Beyond that we’re not really talking about the rest of the enemies.”

The two executives also shifted when asked about whether or not the player might start side missions in the ruins of the city. “I guess I can’t really talk about those kinds of things,” Bakken said. “But just know that even though the city is pretty desolate there are some things going on in there we aren’t talking about yet.”

Crosby then added, “Really fun elements. The city is full of danger in terms of the way that you work your way through, and it’s being patrolled and you’ll run into groups of enemies all over the place. But beyond that there are certainly things to explore and fun surprises along the way.”

Bakken then finally concluded that the way players would tackle the ruins of New Mombasa would be up to them and that their experience would be tailor made according to their actions. “The way you approach New Mombasa is completely up to you. If you want to just get to the next clue object and play that flashback mission, there’s nothing stopping you from doing that, other than the Covenant that are running around the city. But there are other things for you to explore as well if you choose to. There will definitely be a certain part of the population that plays the game that’ll be really into some of the cool stuff we have in there.”

Overall, these new statements will certainly put some more fuel on the speculation fire of many Halo fans around the world. All they can do though is wait until this Fall when Halo 3: ODST will arrive on store shelves.
