The free-to-play flight combat simulator is expected in 2015

Some new Dreadnought gameplay footage has emerged on the surface of the Internet, courtesy of developer Yager.

Dreadnought is the kind of game that everyone wished they had while growing up, but hey, it's better late than never. The game pits together teams of players in engaging aerial battles, with each gamer assuming control of a certain type of vessel.

It's not really a typical aerial combat simulator, as it's slower paced than the usual frantic action space combat sims around and looks like more of a flying Mech Warrior game, with various different classes of ships fulfilling different roles on the battleground.

The video consists of a deadly battle, complete with developer commentary, showcasing a 5v5 Team Deathmatch battle on a glacier-ridden map.

It introduces the Light Destroyer assault class vessel, the Light Tactical Cruiser, a support ship that is able to repair nearby friendly ships, as well as the Artillery Cruiser, who works like a sort of long-range sniper of sorts.

Also making an appearance are the Corvette, who functions like a nimble scout, and the Dreadnought, the heaviest ship in the game yet.

Yager has some interesting titles lined up for 2015

The final version of Dreadnought will have a lot more ship classes to choose from and will be released as a free-to-play title for Windows PC.

This isn't the first time that Yager tries its hand at making stuff fly in the sky, in fact its first game is a combat flight simulator that bears the same name as the studio.

Since then, the team released Spec Ops: The Line, a controversial and lauded first-person shooter that casts a different light on modern warfare, and is currently working on Dead Island 2, the follow-up to Techland's zombie survival game, expected on Windows PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Both Dead Island 2 and Dreadnought are expected to come out sometime later this year.
