Digital Light Processing Projectors may not make the news as often as PCs, graphics cards and TVs, but they are definitely a solid part of the digital imaging industry.

Many companies and schools use them, as well as universities, both for teaching subjects and for studies.

Still, projectors are only as good as their main processors, as those chips dictate the limits to performance and image quality and, consequently, price ranges.

Pixelworks has just released its latest such processor, called Topaz PWC858DLP.

It will allow mainstream DLP projectors to produce WXGA images (1280 x 768 pixels).

Among its assets are Integrated HDMI v1.3, 2D Comb filter (stabilizes Cross-Color, Cross-Luma artifacts), 10/100 Ethernet MAC for LAN connectivity, an On-System Display (OSD) menu controller, and many more.

Hopefully, some cheap but decent projectors will go on sale soon.
