A deeper game

Paradox Interactive, the developer and publisher of the very popular Europa Universalis series, has released new details regarding the Vae Victis expansion for its latest game, Rome, which deals with the history of the Roman Republic.

Europa Universalis: Rome is a grand strategy title and the expansion is aiming to add more options related to the way a player can run his nation. As the title indicates, the focus is on the Roman Republic, with the Senate added as an important entity in the game. A player will get requests from the Senators and the power accumulated will influence the options in the game.

Characters will be more interesting than in the original game, as their quirks and traits will play a bigger role in their life and loyalties. You will be able to access a more in depth profile of any character at any time and there will be more options for dealing with those people the player just does not like - imprisoning and even assassinating them. If you like a character, you can choose to bestow upon him one of the three categories of titles that the game will feature, in an effort to improve his level of loyalty to the ruler.

Missions, which have already been implemented in Europa Universalis III: In Nomine, will also come to Rome. Missions are optional but include powerful rewards. They will be assigned by the Senate depending on which political party is in power and some of them will be tied to Decisions, a new feature which allows a player to shape his nation, for example by going from a Republic to a Monarchy.

The tribes in the game will also be enhanced in Vae Victis with the addition of clans, parts of the tribe which have a chieftain with clear characteristics that will get various requests from the ruler. How you deal with them can mean the difference between defeat and victory.
