The Apple model to launch a product without offering too many details about it has been picked up by Sony, who has started to add new information and enigmatic presentations with the new ?Alpha" DSLR.

Towards the end of April, Sony announced in a press release that the "alpha" system integrates advanced electromechanical technologies that are key to D- SLR performance, the versatility of the well-established Maxxum lens mount system, and Sony's renowned in imaging devices and technologies. These include CCD and CMOS imaging sensors, as well as other image processing technologies, in addition to overall product miniaturization.

The new section related to the new camera on Sony's site now contains an interview with Toru Katsumoto, Senior General Manager of the Digital Imaging Business Group within Sony.

"Firstly, although Sony is a newcomer to the field of SLR cameras, we are determined to win the trust and respect of users everywhere. This dedication will set us apart as one of the premier SLR camera makers. Second, we consider it of utmost importance to show the same respect for the traditions of the SLR camera culture as is shown for traditional arts like rakugo. This means making no compromises in delivering the high level of performance customers have come to expect," he said.

An important announcement made by Katsumoto was that Sony will offer in 2006 no less than 20 new lenses for the Alpha.

Up until now, Konica-Minolta has sold over 16 million lenses compatible with the Dynax/Maxxum mount.
