Yesterday, Ubisoft revealed more details about Tom Clancy's HAWX 2, the sequel to the Ubisoft Bucharest-developed flying action game. The game will put players again in the shoes of an elite pilot in the HAWX squadron, as they face numerous challenges in typical Tom Clancy near-future fictional wars. HAWX 2 will allow the use of numerous experimental aircraft and technology, like the F-35 plane or the Enhanced Reality System.

Gamers will get to fly to various locations around the world, like Moscow, the Persian Gulf, the Arctic Circle or the Indian Ocean. These places are built using the GeoEye commercial satellite imagery to give the virtual pilots a higher degree of immersion. Ubisoft Bucharest is promising explosive close-range dogfights that will keep fans on the edge of their seats.

Other new features have been announced by the publisher. A new addition, for example, is the ability to take off or land in bases and aircraft carriers. New missions will put players in new situations like night precision bombing or tracking targets using an unmanned aerial vehicle and then take down the target from a safe distance up in the sky. The planes will have to be refueled mid-mission this time around in intense air-to-air resupply scenarios. Four-player cooperative multiplayer has been announced, but also an adversarial online component for up to eight people will be included in the final release.

The first iteration of High Altitude Warfare eXperimental squadron's digital adventures was a successful project for the Romanian studio, with over one million sales and with positive reviews even from the infamous Zero Punctuation. Bogdan Bridinel, creative director at Ubisoft, has recently declared that the sales of this first title made HAWX an important brand for Ubisoft and that it will continue to grow with HAWX 2. The new installment in the series will be launched on the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360, the PC and the Wii sometime this fall.
