Acer America Corporation announced that two new laptops from the Gemstone PC family are now available to consumers. Built around Intel's latest Centrino technology, the 5920 and 4710 Gemstone laptops are the latest notebooks from Acer. According to the manufacturing company press release, the design team worker with BMW Group DesignworksUSA and they studied "design trends, develop the concept and visualize new forms".

Their research led them to the conclusion that customers find most important among the design features of a mobile computing platform, the "color and material, branding and naming, and shape treatment" of a particular laptop. The new Acer notebooks are taking full advantage of these discoveries, so a product with "smooth, rounded and natural shape" was obtained, "along with special attention to details. The contrasting dark and glimmering chassis exterior, with a pearl-grey interior, is as unexpected as it is remarkable". The 5290 laptop model is a "highly-versatile multimedia powerhouse PC" that represents Acer's best to date "Empowering Technology together with the Acer Arcade software suite" to offer users the best possible multimedia experiences. Among the 5290's features users will find a 15.4 inch widescreen display that implements the patented Acer CrystalBrite technology and a Dolby Home Theater audio solution that completely immerses listeners into "the middle of the onscreen action for a cinema-style experience at home or on the go".

Together with the 5290 laptop model comes the Aspire 4710 notebook that features a 14.1 inch display mounted on a "cool new chassis design" well suited for an "entertainment notebook". The 4710 model is power by Intel's Core 2 Duo mpbile processors. Just like the 5290 laptop, the 4710 model comes with Dolby surround sound, while the communication needs are satisfied by the "one-click Acer Video Conference solution, including the Acer CrystalEye webcam for easy real-time video and voice connections, ideal for the budget-conscious consumer".

According to the manufacturer, the Aspire 5290 model comes with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium or Ultimate, while the 4710 laptop uses Vista Home Premium. From the Acer software package, both notebooks received the "Acer GridVista, Acer Arcade, Adobe Reader, Norton Internet Security and CyberLink Power Producer software suites".
