Five new regional US carriers are getting the iPhone, and an additional 12 territories around the globe are putting the new iPad on sale today.

It had already been revealed that five extra US operators were planning to carry Apple’s iPhone, and today we have our confirmation that Alaska Communications, Appalachian Wireless, GCL, Cellcom, and nTelos are all selling Apple’s iPhone 4S at a $50 discount, and they’re charging $99 for the iPhone 4.

The prices are tied to a two-year contract.

Apple itself is selling the iPhone 4 at the same $99 price in the United States via its online store, with AT&T, Verizon and Sprint as the supported carriers. It is also “selling” the iPhone 3GS for $0.00 with a new, two-year contract at AT&T.

As for the iPad, Apple has given the go-ahead to a dozen new countries to start selling the elusive tablet computer today.

In a press release dated April 16th, Apple announced that “the new iPad, the third generation of its category defining mobile device, will arrive in South Korea and 11 additional countries on Friday, April 20.”

The new countries are South Korea, Brunei, Croatia, Cyprus, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Malaysia, Panama, St Maarten, Uruguay and Venezuela.

“The new iPad features a stunning new Retina display, Apple’s new A5X chip with quad-core graphics and a 5 megapixel iSight camera with advanced optics for capturing amazing photos and 1080p HD video,” Apple said. “The new iPad still delivers the same all-day 10 hour battery life* while remaining amazingly thin and light.”

The company announced that, beginning on Friday, April 27, the new iPad would also be available in Colombia, Estonia, India, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Montenegro, South Africa and Thailand.
