ThermoIntelligence makes a difference

BFG Technologies announced the launch of four new graphics cards, the BFG Nvidia based GeForce 8600 GT model OC and OC2, that come with a new cooling solution, the ThermoIntelligence. Both the OC and the OC2 models will feature 256MB and 512MB of video memory.

According to the BFG Technologies press release concerning the launch of the new graphics cards, bigger cooling solutions are not always better as they take up additional space inside the computer case, sometimes at the expense of an expansion slot that could be normally used to house an add-on card. As the ThermoIntelligence cooling solution kit is designed to offer the best cooling experience, while taking up as little space as possible, the BFG card occupies only a single PCI Express slot.

While custom cooling solutions designed for graphics cards are increasing fan rotation speed in order to force more air into the heatsink and achieve a better cooling of the GPU and video memory at the expense of a quiet operation, the BFG ThermoIntelligence goes on lowering the GPU and memory temperatures by an average of 11 degrees Celsius over the standard solution, without increasing the operational noise thanks to its design. Users that are having two BFG cards operating in an Nvidia SLI setup may even experience an 18 degrees Celsius reduction in the temperature registered by the primary graphics card.

"We've added our custom ThermoIntelligence custom cooling solutions to our 8600 GT lineup, lowering GPU temperatures up to 18?C over the reference cooler", said Dean Brady, Sr. Director of Marketing for BFG Technologies. "This translates into increased reliability and performance for our customers".

The lower end BFG GeForce 8600 GT OC with ThermoIntelligence comes with a core clock speed of 565MHz, while the video memory runs at 1400MHz and the shader frequency at 1242MHz. The higher end OC2 model comes with a 620MHz graphics core clock, shaders running at 1250MHz and video memory with a speed of 1600MHz for the card with 256MB, while the model with 512MB of memory has a lower 1500MHz speed.
