A brand new update for Call of Duty: Ghosts has just gone live across the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One platforms, bringing plenty of improvements to the spawn system, the weapon balance, or the anti-cheat mechanic.

Call of Duty: Ghosts came out last November and brought forth what looked to be a reboot of the series with a fresh story and the overhauled visuals that took advantage of the new PS4 and Xbox One platforms.

Unfortunately, while the game certainly had some financial success, things didn't go according to plan and Activision now hopes that this year's Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will re-establish the series.

Even so, this doesn't mean that Infinity Ward has abandoned the Ghosts experience. Quite the opposite, as it's just rolled out some fresh downloadable content in the form of map packs and personalization add-ons, and has even launched a new update for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One platforms.

According to the official forums, the patch appeared on PC last week and is finally making its way onto the console editions of Ghosts.

First up, the update once again tries to improve the spawn system as it now has a better ability to select optimum spawns when the valid locations are limited.

What's more, the weapon balance has been tweaked to reduce the lethality of assault rifles, submachine guns, or light machine guns. "One shot to the body and one shot to the head is no longer a kill for ARs, SMGs and LMGs," Infinity Ward said.

The anti-cheat system has seen some overall improvements but the studio declined to go into further detail, as that might help those who make cheats and hacks for Ghosts circumvent its security systems.

A few other fixes in terms of competitive gameplay have been added, such as optimizations for the Gun Game type and an error with transitioning from a clan public playlist match to a private one after turning off CODeSports mode.

The Extinction cooperative system has also received its fair share of fixes, as the class is now displayed above a player's head alongside his username. Kastet rounds should now explode at any distance and the drill should respawn as intended if a player who was carrying it falls off a cliff.

Gargoyles will no longer get stuck in the air and a few other balancing updates, not to mention adjustments for certain challenges, have been added.

The new patch is already available for download via the PlayStation Network or Xbox Live, depending on your platform.
