14 DAY TRIAL // After two years of waiting to hear new music from Beyonce, her fans finally have good reason to rejoice: a demo of her first single off the upcoming album has leaked. “Girls (Who Run the World)” will be included on the material that drops this June.
The version of the song that came out was just a demo, but it still managed to get very intense reactions from the fans: while some say it’s confirmation that “Queen Bey is back,” others claim to be disappointed by it.
Built on a sample from “Pon de Floor” by producer Diplo, “Girls (Who Run the World)” continues in the same female empowerment vein as many other Beyonce songs, but it’s a bit more aggressive and fast-paced than these.
Knowing that Beyonce was shooting for the video for this song just days ago and having a first listen at it, it’s not hard to imagine that the official vid will probably feature some insane and intense dancing, the kind we haven’t seen even in her previous work.
Back to the demo in question: MTV News says fans took to Twitter the moment it leaked to praise Beyonce for the great job she did on the experimental track.
They also say that “Girls” confirms what the singer has been saying all along, namely that the upcoming album will see her trying on new sounds and a mixture of genres.
On the other hand, other fans say they’re disappointed in how the first single from a new album sounds: it would have worked wonderfully for pop stars like Rihanna or even Willow Smith, but not for someone of Beyonce’s caliber.
It’s simply too loud and too messy to even make sense, some are even saying on dedicated forums. Beyonce makes excellent music and is a wonderful artist who is just as committed as she is talented, which is why “Girls” falls short.
