It's basically a UPS that can meet much higher power demands

Servers and data centers have backups, and those backups usually have backups of their own, in case of power failure, but what if power failure wasn't such a big risk anymore?

That question is one that Quanta Computer and Wiwynn, Wistron's subsidiary provider of cloud computing system integration services, want to answer.

They will participate in Facebook's Open Compute Project (OCP) Summit that will take place in San Jose, the US between January 28-29.

There, Quanta will show a battery backup system (BBS) for servers, one that uses Li battery packs to keep servers running for three minutes when main power falls. It should be enough to safely shut them down, preventing data loss or corruption.

The solution complies with OCP standard and should be much less costly than using a USP (unlimited power supply).
