It costs $4,000 / €3,103 instead of a hundred times as much

I knew that metal 3D printers were starting to show up with more or less reasonable prices more often, but the ones that sell for less than five-zero figures are still pretty hard to find.

The Aurora is one of them though. And it doesn't sell for one or several tens of thousands of dollars/euro, but for four thousand, if you can believe it.

That's right, the Aurora 3D Printer from Aurora Labs, a company based in Perth, Australia, costs only $4,000 / €3,103.

Even the Orbit 1 costs $5,000 / €3,881, and that's not even a 3D printer, but a machine that can add a metal overlay to plastic printed objects.

Nevertheless, the folks at Aurora Labs promise that their metal 3D printer indeed costs just four thousand, and I'll gladly take them at their word, since it's awesome news for everybody. A lot better than paying 120,000 dollars in any event, and there are printers that are even more expensive than that.

The newcomer can make items from a whole bunch of metals, like stainless steel, Inconel, Hastelloy, Brass, Bronze, and mild steel. Plus some of their variations, among other things.

The Aurora uses metal laser sintering or powdered bed fusion (that's right, it can use two distinct metal 3D printing technologies). I can only hope their Kickstarter project pays off.
