Star blazing through the galaxy

What happened to the good old days when we used to play simple and dynamic arcade games when it was all about getting the highest score or defending the galaxy from invading aliens? The new gaming era seems to take us away from those types of games and pushes us into an online virtual world where interaction is no longer against an AI but real people.

Still, I’m happy to announce that Gladiators Software has released the second part of StarBlaze. This goes to continue the tradition of classic “shoot 'em up” games even though they have been pushed aside lately. The new and improved version of StarBlaze impresses through its high quality graphics and incredible dynamism. Each map has been carefully designed giving you a 3D look and feel of the game. Moreover, even the background is fully dynamic and sometimes it can be tricky trying to figure out which are your targets and which are the background elements.

What makes this game different is the fact that, after each mission, you can shop for new parts that you can add and use on your ship. For instance, if you have enough money, you can buy better and more powerful weapons, improved shielding and self repair kits. All of these give the player a sense of control over the game and make him want to keep playing for a better and stronger spaceship.

Just like any other “shoot 'em up” arcade, at the end of each level, you have to take on a boss. Usually, each of them has a weakness that you have to find and exploit. It can be somewhat tricky destroying them but you have to keep in mind that you do it all for the money.

As previously stated, each map is of magnificent beauty, but you must not linger too much into analyzing all of its details because the game provides you with about eighty different types of monsters that can’t wait to take their shot at you. As adrenaline keeps pumping through your veins when fighting them, you must also find the time to collect all the items that they drop or the various powerups that each map generously provides. All of these will help you get a better score and even prolong your life.

Last but not least, what is a space shooting game without an adequate soundtrack? StarBlazer 2 has a unique music collection that blends perfectly with the space destruction mayhem, and let’s not forget that prior to encountering a boss, the soundtrack changes so that you can better get into the killing groove.

All in all, StarBlazer 2 recaptures the essence of classic “shoot 'em up” space arcade games giving it a unique adaptation to the current gameplay needs. For 19.96 dollars, you can enjoy all 30 maps with no limitations. Who said that saving the galaxy was overrated?
