Sunnyvale, California-based Advanced Micro Devices, the world's second largest vendor of computer processors, is expected to announce an update of its business line of microprocessors, which will provide customers with a new series of Phenom II and Athlon II CPUs. Part of the chip maker's new and improved platform for business customers, the new processors are featured with technologies that matter to the business segment. There are a couple of new models that are expected to make their way on the market, featuring dual-core, triple-core and quad-core architectures.

According to recent details that have surfaced on the Internet, the new CPUs will be coupled with AMD's next-generation platform, codenamed Kodiak, which is based on the new AMD 785G and SB710 chipset combo. The platform also boasts a DASH-compliant LOM (lights out management) chip, a trusted platform module 1.2 (TPM) chip and the graphics capabilities of the new AMD chipset, the 785G. These graphics improvements include the support for DirectX 10.1-enabled applications, the universal video decoder 2.0 (UVD) and support for DisplayPort, DVI, HDMI and VGA connectivity.

Unfortunately, there aren't many details available on the upcoming processors, but there are a couple of things that need to be highlighted. Part of the quad-core lineup, AMD will unveil the Phenom II X4 B93 and B95 processors featuring 8MB of cache and support for 1333MHz memory. The triple-core Phenom II X3 B73, B75 will boast 7.5MB of cache and support for 1333MHz memory. On the dual-core segment, the company will unveil the Phenom II X2 B53, B55 and the Athlon II X2 B22 and B24. The Phenom II parts are designed with 7MB of cache and 1066MHz memory support, while the Athlon II CPUs boast 2MB of cache and 1066MHz memory.

All processors have been designed to deliver enhanced idle power specifications and support AM3 sockets, featuring support for dual-channel DDR3 memory. No word on pricing and availability for the time being, but we hear that they should be launched sometime in the third quarter of this year.
