In defiance of all expectations, the device ships for half of what others do

Nextbook Premium 10SE might become the hero of quite a few people, even though it runs Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) instead of Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) or Windows 8/RT. With a screen diagonal of 9.7 inches (five finger touch-capable TFT color screen of 1024 x 768 pixels), the slate has a price of $279.99 / 214-279.99 Euro.

In fact, it is even possible to score a discount through Radio Shack and Hastings, of $30 / 23-30 Euro.

In a world where 10.1-inch tablets sell for $499 or a lot more, this is nothing short of mouthwatering.

Nextbook paired a 1 GHz CPU with 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of flash storage, a USB port, a microSD card slot (32 GB max) and integrated Wi-Fi and OTA firmware updater (so there should eventually be a Jelly Been upgrade).

A front webcam exists too (0.3 megapixels) and the company even tossed in a speaker, MP3 player, photo viewer and 25 pre-loaded digital books.
