Plextor's been in the storage market for quite some time now, and for this reason, it should come as no surprise that they've also joined the USB 3.0 bandwagon, their latest product to incorporate this high-speed interface being the PX-PH500U3 portable HDD.

Without a doubt, USB 3.0 (or SuperSpeed USB, if you prefer) is going mainstream at a very fast pace, due mostly to the enhanced data transfer speeds it enables, and for this reason, we're most likely going to see even more products featuring this particular type of interface making their way onto the market over the next couple of months/years.

Anyway, back to the device from Plextor, it's very important to mention the fact that, as you can easily see for yourselves from the enclosed photo, it features an elegantly crafted chassis, accompanied by a stylish leatherette case, that will deliver an extra level of protection during transport, while in the same time being quite appealing on the eyes.

Similar to most other new storage solutions that arrive on the market nowadays, the device from Plextor also comes pre-loaded with a couple of interesting and useful software applications that extend its level of functionality, such as the FNet PC Clone EX backup and restore software, as well as the Turbo HDD utility, for maximizing the read and write speeds.

Finally, moving on to the topics of pricing and availability, Plextor informs us that the 500 GB PX-PH500U3 portable HDD will be available in Europe from March 2011, the estimated retail price being set at roughly 90 pounds sterling (146 US dollars).

But that's not all, since the company also revealed the fact that they would soon be offering a 750GB version of this very compact and attractive portable USB 3.0 hard-drive, this future model being called the PX-PH750U3 and also being slated to become available from April, for an estimated price point of roughly 120 pounds sterling (195 US dollars).
