While all initial rumors about what we'd expect from the event next Tuesday pointed at the new, widescreen, full screen video iPod, recent rumors have abandoned the aforementioned device entirely. Everyone is talking about the new iMac that Apple is expected to unveil.

This new iMac will be built around a new 23-inch display, will be mountable on a wall and will allow the user to wirelessly stream TV shows and movies to it as well as photos and music. Of course, this being an iMac, it will also be possible to do everything you can do on the other iMacs, such as edit and burn videos and DVDs.

As Apple's 23-inch displays are progressive and support greater than 1080p resolution, it is expected that the new iMac will be able to play 1080p HDTV perfectly, and may even be able to go higher than that. While the 23-inch screen is not exactly ideal for a home theatre, many are speculating that this is more of a test model, and that if well received, Apple will roll out the same hardware with a larger display. While a new revision of the iMac, built around the Merom processor, is certainly expected, the concept of this new model that can be used both as a personal computer and as a media center is new, at least in practice. Of course, Apple has been known for being a trend setter and for doing things that had only been talked about before, and this rumor is coming in from so many places that there just has to be a seed of fact at its origin.
