It also comes in 256 GB to 1 TB and has a heavy silicon cover and protective case

Portable HDDs are usually made with ease of use and slimness in mind, but Sony went a bit outside the norm when it made the PSZ-HA2T and its lower-capacity variations.

Which is to say, the 2 TB storage unit has a protective case and a silicon cover that protects it from harm.

You can still destroy it if you smash it against the concrete and stomp on it a few times, but accidental drops shouldn't be a problem.

The protective case is also meant to aid the drive in withstanding shipping damage, as well as potential harm that could be inflicted upon it due to everything that happens during, say, a field film production.

Compliance with MIL-STD-810G standard is another asset, providing dust resistance. Meanwhile, the IPX4 standard ensures splash resistance (so no rain or coffee spills will kill it).

There's an LED indicator too, which lets one know what the state of the data transfer is.

Finally, the Sony 2 TB portable HDD can be formatted in exFAT, FAT32, HFS+ and NTFS. All for the price of $270 / €197.

Of course, the 500 GB (PSZ-HA50) and 1 TB (PSZ-HA1T) storage devices will continue to sell as well. The 2 TB one is just the latest addition, with two FireWire 800 and one USB 3.0 connector. The max transfer speed should be of 120 MB/s. There's a 256 GB SSD as well, with 400 MB/s top speed over FireWire.
