Last year customers favored 7- to 8-inch tablets, but with a new year come shifting preferences. As smartphone sizes have started to increase from 5- to 6.99-inch, demand for smaller-framed tablet has started to ware out.

Sources familiar with the matter (via DigiTimes) report brand vendors have been forced to rethink their strategies regarding tablets and the way out of the slump seems to be putting out tablets with larger screen sizes.

Google is currently working on an 8-inch Nexus tablet model, due to seeing disappointing sales for its second-gen Nexus 7 tablet. Other important names in the business are expected to go even further and push out new tablet models with screen sizes ranging from 11-inch and 13.9-inch.

By 2018 the sources expect 9% of tablet sales to come from 11- to 13.9-inch tablet models, while 7- to 8-inch models will become obsolete?
