It has a significantly lower color noise ratio than others of its kind

Toshiba hasn't actually released its latest image sensor yet. Instead, it will officially launch it in April, although mass production won't begin until September.

Called T4K71, the image sensor measures 1.12 micrometers and can record Full HD video (1080p) easily.

Smooth, continuous recording of full high-definition video can actually be done at the high speed frame rate of 60 fps at full resolution.

The color noise ratio is the real asset though. Thanks to a combination of back side illumination (BSI) and a color noise reduction circuit (CNR), the ratio is the same as on 1.4 micrometer products.

As such, cameras and chips that use this particular image sensor can more easily be miniaturized.

The aspect ratio of the sensor is 16:9, the full frame rate of 60 fps, and the resolution of 2 megapixels. The optical size is 1/7.3 inch.
