The development team at Cryptic Studios and publisher Perfect World Entertainment announce that the new Icewind Dale area is now live for its Neverwinter MMO, allowing gamers to experience an entirely new environment modelled on one of the most popular locations from the Dungeons & Dragons Forgotten Realms universe.

The official name of the new module is Curse of Icewind Dale and gamers will be able to experience a new narrative thread from the perspective of the people of Ten Towns or the Arcane Brotherhood, as both try to get their hands on the new Black Ice resource.

Those who manage to acquire it will be then able to use it in order to create some of the most powerful items in the world of the MMO, which can be used to gain the upper hand in coming battles.

Neverwinter includes new Heroic Encounters, designed to test the skill of all the players who have reached the level cap, and those who want an even bigger challenge can head to the Player versus Player areas in order to battle other humans.

A new Hunter Ranger Paragon Path has also been added in order to give players who use the class more survivability during end game content and access to more abilities.

Craig Zinkievich, an executive producer on the MMO, states, “Releasing our third major update less than a year after launch is substantial achievement. Many compelling new features have been added into this latest Module, including new open world PvP and PvE content. We’re committed to continually bringing our Neverwinter players high-quality and engaging new content, and our players will discover great new gameplay and story content in Curse of Icewind Dale.”

It’s unclear whether in the future Cryptic Games will deliver more content related to Icewind Dale, perhaps using the wide library of stories already created by their partners at Wizards of the Coast, or if the development team plans to focus on the creation of new environments linked to Dungeon & Dragons Forgotten Realms.

Neverwinter is an entirely free MMO which allows gamers to create a character and then explore the iconic city and solve plenty of quests in the world around it and in more remote environments.

Cryptic Games has designed a compelling world and a powerful suite of tools called The Foundry, which allows any player to create his own content and quests and then share them with the entire community.
