Netgear decided to enforce its status as provider of very high-end wireless networking solutions by creating an item capable of rivaling a certain something that TRENDnet

delivered about two months ago.

By now, it will have become obvious that the worldwide IT industry is moving into an age of less cable clutter.

Wireless communications have gained prominence, as have peripherals capable of linking to PCs from afar, via Bluetooth or other means.

Netgear is one of the companies closely involved in wireless networking research and product development.

The latest piece of proof to this effect was given the shape of the N900 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router.

With a price of $180, it attains a speed of 900 Mbps, provided the two bands (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) both work at full capacity (450 Mbps).

This isn't all that Netgear has in store for prospective customers, however, as the six antennas (enable a wide WiFi range) are joined by two USB ports, Gigabit wired ethernet, WPA and WPA2 security protocols, guest access, DLNA, usage meter, a shutoff timer and even video stream optimization, plus printer sharing and parental controls.

The Genie network monitoring applications is also part of the asset list, making it more than obvious that there is little that can be called normal about this router.

“NETGEAR is very proud to introduce the world's most advanced wireless home router," said Sandeep Harpalani, senior product line manager for Wireless Networking at NETGEAR.

"The NETGEAR N900 stands alone in delivering ultimate wireless speed, range and premium features, while the router's easy-to-use browser-based installation and NETGEAR Genie will help even the most non-technical users explore and enjoy all the possibilities of a modern home network."

Sales should already be underway in the US (other countries will get it in Winter) and the product page may be found here.
