Owners of mobile phones running under Google's Android operating system can now enjoy an updated Netflix application available for download through the Android Market.

The mobile application was released only a few weeks ago with support for a handful of mobile phones running under the Android OS, and is now available on more of them.

However, it would still take a while before the application becomes generally available in an official manner, since it can already be loaded on more handsets, unofficially.

The new version of the application comes with the following changes.

- Various minor bug fixes. - Fixed application failure on startup when phone's embedded storage space is almost full. - Removed check that prevented attempt to playback on unsupported devices. - Added support for LG Revolution, Motorola Droid and Casio G'zOne Commando C771.

With it, users can enjoy TV shows & movies streaming from Netflix straight on their Android-based mobile phones.

The application would require a Netflix unlimited membership for usage, but those who do not have one can enjoy a free trial of the service.

With the new application, owners of Android-based devices can enjoy features like resuming of playback from where they left off, browsing of movies and management of instant Queues right from the phone, and more.

Currently, the mobile application is available for the following devices:

HTC Incredible with Android 2.2 HTC Nexus One with Android 2.2, 2.3 HTC Evo 4G with Android 2.2 HTC G2 with Android 2.2 Samsung Nexus S with Android 2.3 Motorola Droid with Android 2.2 LG Revolution with Android 2.2 Casio G'zOne Commando C771 with Android 2.2

However, some of those who downloaded and gave it a try suggested that it might work on other devices as well, such as the Gingerbread-based ThunderBolt (rooted), the DROID X2 and the DROID X, and even on the new Xperia PLAY.

Of course, there is also the unofficial solution we reported on a few days ago, which would bring Netflix on even more handsets and tablets powered by Android.

The new flavor of Netflix for Android can be downloaded from the Android Market here.
