It seems that the optimal performance, reliability and virtualization offered by Fujitsu's SPARC servers are not the highest services that the leading provider of IT-based business solutions wants to offer. In order to improve access and data-transfer rates, as well as the reliability and serviceability, Fujitsu chose to enlist the services of Neterion, a leading developer of 10 Gigabit Ethernet. Earlier today, an OEM agreement was announced between the two enterprises, according to which Fujitsu's SPARC Enterprise Mission Critical Models are to be outfitted with third-generation 10 GbE adapters.

“The Fujitsu SPARC Enterprise family serves the needs of our most demanding enterprise customers, who require the highest reliability and performance for their mission critical applications,” Mr. Kenichi Sakai, general manager, Mission Critical Server Division of Fujitsu Ltd., stated. “Neterion’s 10 Gigabit Ethernet technology offers a very robust connectivity solution, and is ready to meet the increasing demand for a competitive edge in an always-connected world.”

The high-end SPARC Enterprise M9000 model uses the quad core SPARC64 VII processors, among the finest central processing units for servers. The platform boasts scalability up to 256 CPU cores and 4 TB of memory. However, the optimal performance of the servers is impossible to fully utilize without equally impressive data access and transfer rates.

In order to achieve the high bandwidth and low latency needed for the large-scale network traffic tasks commonly run by such servers, Fujitsu decided on Neterion's services. The 10 GbE is capable of a high throughput and uses the CPU's resources very efficiently. As such, the performance delivered by these adapters is able to keep up with the high-speed computing operations of the servers.

“We are very pleased that Fujitsu has selected Neterion and HHT,” Mr. Keita Miyoshi, general manager, Opt-Communication Department of Hitachi High-Technologies, noted. “Neterion’s latest 10 GbE adapter, with best-in-class reliability, highest performance and lowest CPU overhead is now paired with the leader in SPARC-based enterprise servers; we are very proud to have played an active role in this new success in Japan.”

Neterion was chosen because of its superior RAS features (reliability, availability and serviceability) and its adapters' compatibility with the Solaris operating system, which the servers employ. In addition, based on previous collaborations, the services of the two had an increased degree of compatibility.

The Japanese sales are being handled by HHT, the exclusive distributor of Neterion 10 GbE products in Japan.
