The people at NeoOffice.org have updated the suite of office applications with the same name to version 2.2.5 Patch 8, adding half a dozen fixes that improve the stability and functionality of the software. NeoOffice can be downloaded and used for free on any Mac running Mac OS X 10.3 or later.

According to the release notes for NeoOffice 2.2.5 Patch 8, the new release should fix a bug where the second monitor may not be detected when connected, as well as a fix for occasional deadlocks in menu update. A problem where OpenOffice.org code would deadlock when opening document with control characters in name has also been addressed in this patch. Patch 8 should fix a possible crash when stopping a printer and even a problem where the patch installer hangs when installing on Snow Leopard as well. Lastly, the update fixes a bug where the Command-Shift-F10 key combination would not dock dockable windows.

NeoOffice includes word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, drawing and database programs. It boasts the ability to import, edit and exchange files with other office programs. Most Microsoft Office 2007 Word, Excel and PowerPoint files are supported, as are Excel VBA Macros. Released as free, open-source software under the GNU General Public License (GPL), NeoOffice is fully functional and stable enough for everyday use. The software is actively developed, and updates and improvements are available on a regular basis. Available languages include Czech, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Spanish and Vietnamese.

Note that NeoOffice 2.2.5 Patch 8 requires a full installation of NeoOffice 2.2.5, and will not install on any version of NeoOffice (2.2.4 or lower). The update includes all fixes and additions of previous patches. Use the link below to get the latest patch for the NeoOffice suite.
