A brand new story trailer for Need for Speed: The Run has been released on the web, showcasing just what role the protagonist, Jack, plays in the narrative of the game, which sees him race across the USA from San Francisco to New York.

Electronic Arts and its Black Box studio are getting ready to deploy Need for Speed: The Run, the new racing game in the long running franchise which once again puts an emphasis on story and action, besides going head to head with other racers.

We've already seen a pretty intense story sequence back at E3 2011, when it was revealed that NFS: The Run would have on-foot sequences, besides the traditional car races.

Now, the two companies have posted a proper story introduction for the new game, highlighting Jack's position in the plot and how he really needs to be the first guy to reach New York in The Run.

"Three-thousand miles of unforgiving asphalt from San Francisco to New York. No speed limits. No rules. No allies. Armed with just his guts and instinct, Jack battles a field of the most notorious drivers ever assembled. Dense city streets, icy mountain passes and narrow canyons push his driving skills to the limit. Relentlessly hunted by the police, as well as the men who want him dead, Jack is racing for his life."

Need for Speed: The Run aims at delivering a proper story-based NFS game, appearing after the arcade Hot Pursuit and the gritty simulator that was Shift 2: Unleashed. It's based on the all-new Frostbite 2 engine, developed by DICE for the upcoming Battlefield 3 first person shooter.

We already had hands-on and hands-off experiences with the game during Gamescom 2011 and E3 2011 earlier this year and we were left quite impressed, especially by the Freedom Pass stage, which sees Jack and a rival race through an avalanche in the Rocky Mountains.

Need for Speed: The Run is out on November 15, for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms, as well as for the Nintendo Wii, 3DS or iOS. Until then, check out the story trailer below.
