Electronic Arts and Black Box have presented some fresh details about the upcoming Need for Speed: The Run racing game, including some of the all-new elements coming to its multiplayer mode, like a special Wheel of Fortune-style mechanic that determines what kind of bonus is given to the best racers.

Need for Speed: The Run is set to really give Forza Motorsport 4, the other big racing game of the year, a serious challenge, delivering a story-based experience powered by the stunning visuals rendered by the Frosbite 2 engine.

Besides the story, as well as the challenge series, which allow players to be immersed in single-player races, The Run also has a complex online multiplayer mode, powered by the Autolog system.

As you can see in the video below, besides racing the good old fashion way, The Run also has a few tricks up its sleeve, like a Wheel of Fortune-style bonus selector, which randomly chooses a special prize that's going to be given either to the winner, the top three, or all participants. These bonuses range from more XP to new cars, and are certain to fuel the competitive nature of the racers.

According to a reveal from Gamerzines, there will be multiple categories in the online mode, including a Supercar Challenge, which allows players access to all sorts of extremely powerful vehicles, a NFS Edition Racing series, which focuses only on the exclusive cars from the game, an Underground series, that concentrates on more ordinary cars that have been modified for performance, or an Exotic Sprint series, which allows for longer races with extremely powerful cars.

Last but not least, you can also enjoy multiplayer car battles, where one player starts off behind another, needing to overtake him, and then pull ahead for a certain distance.

Besides all these reveals about the multiplayer in NFS: The Run, EA also confirmed that it has partnered up with famous Hollywood director Michael Bay, to create a unique trailer for the game.

"Starting today, fans of the Need for Speed Facebook page will work together to unlock the trailer which features Need for Speed The Run game footage to showcase a heart-pounding, adrenaline-fueled race that perfectly reflects the game’s action-packed sequences. In the trailer, Bay brings his vision and signature high-octane Hollywood style to The Run, adding his explosive touch to the blockbuster action already in the game."
