Need for Speed: Rivals developer Ghost Games is quite thrilled that a variety of other racing titles are set to appear in the near future and believes that this big offering shows that the genre is as relevant as ever while going into the next-generation of consoles.

NFS: Rivals is a cross-generation game, launching both on the PC, PS3, or Xbox 360 but also on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this month.

Developer Ghost Games wants to establish a fresh direction for the series with the new game and has already showcased its variety of features, including the special AllDrive system.

Now, Ghost Games' Marcus Nilsson has talked about rival racing titles, like Forza Motorsport 5, Driveclub, or The Crew, and revealed that it's great for the whole genre that different experiences are coming.

"I think it's so great that there are other games coming," he told Polygon. "The more games we get into this genre of action racing, the better. Because then we're going to need to innovate. You've got [Ubisoft's] The Crew as well, and we're all going to be pushing innovation forward."

"We're certainly doing our part in that deal of trying to get a new experience onto the consoles for the next generation," he added. "It's just a new way of playing and I think that's what you really need from games when we have a transition."

Nilsson also confirmed that implementing PS Vita Remote Play support in the PS4 edition of Rivals went off rather easily and praised Sony's next-gen console.

"From day one we had it up and running," he said. "Those are the things that you really look for — believe me that there are plenty of other things that are difficult with next-generation consoles. But that specific feature of running on the Vita is not quite simple, but very surprising how easy it was to get it running."

NFS: Rivals is already out for the PS4 and launches next week for the other platforms.
