Right on time, as the DRM wars are raging across Europe, an alternative to the iTunes software released under the name of "nexTune". If you think this is a hasty effort trying to take advantage of certain events happening at this time, then you'd better think again, because this is not true.

nexTune just reached version 2.0, being available for both Mac and Windows platforms, just like Apple's iTunes. OK, great, but why would you use nexTune to replace your old iTunes? That's a good question, and I really hope to give you an answer in the next minutes, so keep reading...

nexTune is the name of the program I am telling you about now, but also the name of the company behind it, founded in 2004 by Michael DuKane, a music industry professional with more than 30 years of playlisting and programming music and music videos in both commercial and consumer environments. As a consequence, nexTune is a program about music from top to bottom, being made by music lovers for music lovers.

The purpose of this program is to enable its users to quickly catalog, playlist and manage music on both CDs and digital formats with ease, bridging the transition to the digital music future, since the CD era was a beautiful one, but all things must come to an end. From now on, nexTune will play your music purchased from iTunes, napster, Yahoo and other stores, anywhere you choose. Even better, you can create custom playlists in an instant and soon you'll have the power to manage almost any portable digital music player from within this program!

nexTune's version for Mac requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later, a PowerPC G3 CPU at 400MHz or faster (Intels are also supported), 256MB of RAM, QuickTime 7 or later, a CD/DVD recorder for burning discs and an Internet connection for retrieving music information. nexTune is a completely free software that can be downloaded from our site, here.
