Smells like an ultra-mobile PC

NEC has officially introduced three new ultra-mobile laptop PCs in the LaVie J Series. Called the LJ750/LH, the LJ700/LH, and LJ730/LG, the three notebook models are built around an ultra-low voltage Intel Core 2 Duo U7600 processor running at 1.20GHz.

All models come in almost the same hardware configuration. They feature Intel?s GM965 Express chipset with built-in video capabilities, a super-multi DVD burner, and a 12.1-inch wide-screen display that can work at a maximum resolution of 1,280?800 dot (WXGA). The notebook offers a wide range of network connectivity options, such as Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n, Wireless USB, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, and FeliCa, Type2 PC card slot, SD card slot, USB 2.0 ?2, mini- D-Sub15 pin, Gigabit Ethernet and voice input/output.

The laptops are built on the same hardware platform, yet they differ in computing power. For instance, the LJ750/LH comes with 2GB of memory that can be extended up to three GB, and 160GB of solid-state drive. The notebook is shipped with a 6-cell battery pack that can offer a total autonomy of up to 6.7 hours of continuous operations. Moreover, for a total price of 1735?, you get the laptop and a pre-loaded version of Windows Vista Ultimate. The LaVie LJ750/LH model is the most expensive in the series.

The LJ730/LG model is the mid-range representative of the J series. It comes with just 1GB of memory and 80 GB of hard-disk space. The notebook comes with a 4-cell battery pack for an estimated autonomy of up to 5.7 hours. It comes with a pre-loaded version of Microsoft Office Personal 2007.

The LJ700/LH notebook is the lowest-end in the new series and shares exactly the same technical specifications with the LJ730/LG, except for the fact that it does not come with the Office 2007 suite.
