Nec introduces a new high-end display

Nec has started shipping its latest LCD. The new product, 2690WUXi display features a 7ms response time (gray-to-gray, 13ms with 7 white/black, 6 black/white). Other specifications include an 800:1 contrast ratio, 400 cd/m?, resolution of 1920 x 1200 at 60 Hz, and DVI-I+DVI-D+VGA. Nothing remarcable here, excepting perhaps it's response time.

Although this LCD may seem yet another mainstream product, its 12-bit gamma lookup table (LUT) allows the monitor to display 16.7 million colors out of a palette of 68.5 billion, giving it the ability to cover 92% of Adobe RGB space and that quality alone says a lot about the colors it can reproduce. This makes it very appealing for color sensitive applications, such as CAD, photography and video editing, and scientific research and medicine related research. The 2690WUXi is starting to be introduced into U.S. channels too, but don?t expect the price to be lower than $2,000 since it is the exact price tag that this LCD has on the European market. But if you can afford to spend the money on a 24?-30? LCD, this one is probably the best you can buy.
