You might not expect NVIDIA to have something on display at the Emerging Technology section of SIGGRAPH, but here we are.

The company has invented something called near-eye light field displays.

Basically, it is a set of eyewear that uses a pair of OLED microdisplays instead of lenses, plus a box stashed on top, holding the electronic parts.

The OLED displays are Sony ECX332A panels with a native resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, through 24-hit color pixels.

The OLEDs create a light field directly over the pupil, allowing the users to focus at multiple depths.

The field of view created this way is of about 70 degrees.

All in all, NVIDIA is trying to contribute to the movement of augmented reality glasses started by Google Glass. Find more on NVIDIA Research.
