The Panorama View 3D function, plus loads of other goodies

Pretty much all the GPS navigation systems out there will support full 3D maps at some point, but there are a few manufacturers that are already taking things even further. Take Navigon for example; it couldn't simply settle for 3D landmarks, so instead it decided to actually allow drivers to view specific details regarding the terrain in front of them.

Without a doubt, the main selling point of the device from Navigon is represented by the Panorama View 3D feature, which brings a very realistic 3D experience to the map using NASA terrain height data to provide geographic guidance complete with rolling hills and digital elevations. And in order to allow users to view quite clearly these details, it sports quite a wide, 4.8-inch display.

However, the 3D processing engine of the device is put to good use by two other features, the Reality View Pro and the Lane Assistant Pro. The fist one displays photo-realistic 3D views with actual road signs and lane guidance for highway interchanges and exits, while the second one helps drivers prepare to make an upcoming exit or turn by providing clear visual lane guidance.

Of course, the device from Navigon also offers a host of other interesting navigation features, such as free real-time traffic updates for life, voice destination entry and Bluetooth hands-free, all of which are designed to provide a complete navigation experience.

Unfortunately, given the amount of highly-innovative features it provides, the Navigon 8100T is also a very expensive product. The PND will have a MSRP of 599 US dollars when it will arrive in stores later on this month, while users who decide to purchase it will also be offered the FreshMaps update system, which provides up to 12 map updates over three years for $79.99 (MSRP).

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there.
