The soaring rates of teen pregnancies are not the direct consequence of a too liberal environment, but exactly the opposite of that, a document filed by the British Naturism Organization with the Scottish government says. Moreover, prudery and a censorious attitude towards the human body can be closely connected to the number of young girls who become pregnant, it is being added, as reports in the British media have it.

The UK is the one country with the biggest number of teen pregnancy cases in Europe, a problem that has prompted many organizations to try to find a solution to the ever-spreading problem. The Organization, for one, believes that the answer lies in the attitude society has towards the human body (sans clothes), which means that the stricter the society as a whole, the bigger the number of this type of pregnancies.

In Scotland, it is further being underlined, this problem is even more serious, as the prudery there has reached almost unbelievable heights.

“Anyone who advocates prudery should be required to stand in front of a group of pregnant teenagers and explain why it is that, in countries such as Denmark or the Netherlands, most of them would not be pregnant.” Andrew Welch, commercial manager of British Naturism, says, as quoted by the Daily Mail.

“There is strong evidence that conventional attitudes towards the human body contribute significantly to a wide range of problems, some of them serious – but there is incredible reluctance to face the implications.” he adds. As the British media notes, what Mr. Welch is doing is not just expressing a personal opinion, as he’s speaking specific numbers and examples, following extensive research in this sense.

“Westminster Government figures published recently show that the UK has the worst teenage pregnancy figures of any country in Europe, while the figures are even worse in Scotland. The UK is probably the most censorious country in Europe about anything to do with the body. This pattern of less body tolerance, worse outcome is repeated across the Western world. Our research shows conclusively that this is no chance connection.” Welch explains.

The Organization’s belief is that the number of teen pregnancies will go down, if and when society learns to see the human body as it is without embarrassment and / or prejudice. There is nothing to be ashamed of, it is being stressed, and only a healthy perspective on the body can help teens and society as a whole.
