The new application release should land in a matter of weeks

Soon, Mozilla will make available for download a new flavor of their Firefox browser for devices running under Google’s Android operating system.

The new application release will bring along a major change, as Mozilla chose to pack it with a Native Android UI, instead of the original appearance.

Through this major revamp, Mozilla ensures that the browser can deliver far better loading times, and that the user experience is enhanced.

Of course, the application will keep the same rendering engine, but it has been redesigned to load it in the background, while already offering users the possibility to interact with the new native UI.

Basically, by the time users start typing the address they would like to access, the Gecko engine will be loaded and the application will be able to do its job faster.

The new browser design also proposes a chromeless / buttonless aesthetic, which poses some issues when it comes to the introduction of a reader mode.

Mozilla has already found a solution for the matter, and also published on its wiki a series of mockups to show what the reader mode might look like in Firefox for Android.

“The reader mode can hidden the menu invoked by pressing the hardware/software menu button or with an icon which appears in the URL bar,” Mozilla notes in this Wiki entry.

“In tablets there is another possible interaction: it would be interesting to have a feature (perhaps ON by default) where when you rotate the device from landscape to portrait the page would automatically enter reader mode.”

You can have a look at the images attached to this article to get an idea of what Mozilla could plan for the reader mode in the Firefox for Android with Native UI release.

Many of these propose appealing designs, and some of them might even make it inside future releases of the application. For the time being, however, we’ll just have to sit tight and wait to see what the company has in store for us with the first release, due later this month.

Firefox for Android is available for download from Softpedia as well, via this link.
