Electric buses seem to be really gaining popularity these day. Thus, the Metropolitan Transit Authority in the city of Nashville in Tennessee, US, has recently announced the purchase of as many as seven battery-electric such vehicles.

Information shared with the public says that, together with the environmentally friendly buses, the city has also agreed to invest in an electric charging station that will serve to keep them up and running. Clean Technica tells us that the vehicles in question were bought from Proterra Inc., a company based in the United States.

They have not yet been built, but staff at Proterra's Greenville, SC manufacturing facility is expected to start working on them as soon as possible.

Thus, the Metropolitan Transit Authority estimates that the company will be able to deliver the vehicles by the end of 2014. Once they are ready for work, the buses will serve the free downtown Music City Circuit.

Commenting on this partnership with Proterra Inc., Paul J. Ballard, the current CEO of the Nashville Metropolitan Transit Authority, stated as follows: “We are committed to investing in transit improvements that better our community by reducing harmful emissions and improving fuel economy.”

“By incorporating the Proterra buses into our fleet, we are moving in the right direction to ensure Nashville MTA’s [Metropolitan Transit Authority] transit services benefit the environment for years to come,” he added.
