XM Satellite Radio announces its intention to offer users a download service for digital music, which will be provided together with Napster.

The service will be called "XM + Napster" and it will be launched in the fourth quarter, together with a new series of XM compatible players produced by Samsung.

This is the first service to be available to the 4.4 million XM subscribers and it will employ a unique accessing, purchasing and administering solution of the music provided by XM and Napster.

One of the features allows users who have new XM players to apply labels to the songs played on the radio they would like to download.

The users who receive XM Radio Online will have the same possibility.

The two companies haven?t disclosed any details related to the price of this service. Currently, the XM Radio subscribers are paying $12.95 for the XM content received monthly. The fee perceived by Napster for downloading MP3 directly to the player is $14.95.
