This coming March 24, the engagement ring that Napoleon gave to his beloved Josephine is set to be auctioned off near Paris.

Experts working with the Osenat auction house in Fontainebleau believe that, all things considered, this piece of jewelry will end up selling for about £13,000 (roughly €15,000/$19,500).

Funnily enough, Napoleon had very little money when he bought the ring, meaning that most of the jewelry's current value is a direct result of its having been worn by Josephine, sources say.

The ring is made up of a gold band on which two tear-shaped gems (one sapphire and one diamond) are fitted.

For those unaware, Napoleon and Josephine got married on March 9, 1796, following just two weeks of engagement.

At that time, Napoleon was merely 26 years old. His wife, Josephine, was 6 years older than him and also had two kids from one previous marriage.

Pictures of the ring are made available to you here.
