Nanya Technology Corporation, a world leading DRAM manufacturer, announced today that it had started shipping its 800MHz DDR2 registered dual in-line memory module (RDIMM), specifically designed for the newly launched Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors. The new memory modules are aimed at optimizing performance on high-end server systems and workstation applications.

“Nanya worked closely with AMD on the launch of the Quad-Core AMD Opteron processor (code-named ‘Shanghai’) to ensure that Nanya DDR2 800 RDIMM would take advantage of the dramatic enhancements in energy efficiency and performance enabled by the new Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors,” said Dr. Pei Lin Pai, vice president of Global Sales & Marketing and spokesman for Nanya Technology Corporation.

“Both AMD and Nanya understand the increasingly critical role that memory plays in the overall performance of our customers’ datacenters,” said John Fruehe, director, Server and Workstation division, AMD. “With significant enhancements in the new Quad-Core AMD Opteron processor that enable increased memory bandwidth, such as support for DDR2-800 memory, and Nanya’s new memory modules, we are confident that our joint customers will realize superior performance while keeping energy costs low.”

Nanya’s new NT4GT72U4ND0BV and NT2GT72U4PD0BV DDR2 800 RDIMMs are available in production quantities. The registered 240-Pin Double Data Rate 2 (DDR2) Synchronous DRAM Dual In-Line Memory Module (DIMM) modules are organized as a 2 ranks 512MX72 high-speed memory array and a 1 rank 256Mx72 high-speed memory array.

The company used raw cards developed for broad industry use as reference designs in the manufacturing of the new DDR2 RDIMMs. The advantage of using a common design is translated into a minimization of electrical variation between suppliers. The Nanya DDR2 SDRAM DIMMs are meant to deliver high performance, and to offer the ultimate experience to high-users.

The new Nanya memory modules come in densities of 2GB, the NT2GT72U4PD0BV, and 4GB, the NT4GT72U4ND0BV kit. More information on the new memory modules is available on the manufacturer's site.
